Info

County: Cumberland
Office: Cumberland County Prothonotary
Incumbent: No
Vote For: 1

What is the most pressing issue facing the office you are running for and what do you plan to do to solve it?

As Prothonotary, I wouldn’t be able to do anything to solve problems within the system that exists- but I know the kind of people this office serves, and I’ll be there to provide adequate services and resources to, for example, transgender people who are getting their names changed, victims of domestic violence filing for divorce, and even immigrants that have completed the naturalization process and are receiving their citizenship. I can’t use this office to push forth legislation to protect people from this administration, but I can be there for people who happen to be disproportionately impacted by this administration.

Please outline two examples of how you are improving your community.

I believe I am helping my community by being an active and vocal reflection of what it means to grow up here. When those who have lived here for 60+ years intermingle with groups like SCYD, where even the oldest of us have lived here for only up to 40 years, they get to firsthand experience the results of their and their children’s parenting and guardianship skills.

Secondly, I (any of us, really) better the community by political discussions with our friends, family, and neighbors. Those of us in SCYD or other political groups, we know about things going on because we either have to or our interests are rooted here- but when we discuss current events with those around us, our education and perspective on issues are rubbing off and informing those who wouldn’t know otherwise. When we have meaningful conversations with our community, we are informing voters.

What would you do in office to benefit and help young people?

If elected, I believe I would be the youngest elected official to serve Cumberland County (I could be wrong), and that itself is a step forward for a political landscape in which Gen Z is widely discredited and one of the least represented demographics. As I campaign for this office, I’m engaging with people my age who have no idea that they could be involved too- that getting involved isn’t some super difficult and foreign process, and that’s why I usually send them a flier or the SCYD link. When young people see a young person running (or even campaigning for somebody else who is), it instills within them the idea that it could be them on that ballot or filling the ballot out- it’s how we win elections.

What is an issue that you are passionate about and why?

Any number of issues could be brough up here, all as valid as the next. A personal issue that I’m passionate about AND doesn’t get enough attention is the Troubled Teen Industry, an issue I campaigned on last year. The Troubled Teen Industry is responsible for taking advantage of the frustrations and good intentions of parents who believe they’re sending their children off to a “wilderness therapy,” “boarding schools,” or “youth camps,” when, in reality, often times these kids are abused, neglected, starved, and used for child labor.

What is the last book you read or what is your favorite book?

My favorite book is Khaled Hosseini’s A Thousand Splendid Suns, a story about the treatment of women in Afghanistan starting in the 1960s.

Is there anything else that you would like the Young Democrats to know about you or your campaign?

Found this link in my inbox and didn’t know if I had to do it or not, so I did. If anything needs changed, clarified, or corrected, let me know! Thanks
