Yes
Info
County: Cumberland
Office: Township Commissioner
Incumbent: No
Vote For: 3
What is the most pressing issue facing the office you are running for and what do you plan to do to solve it?
Taxes and communications. The R township commissioners just raised taxes by 22%. When they voted to raise taxes by 22% they had no public discussion why they were raising taxes by so much. They also did not explain the rationale for the tax increases in subsequent township newsletters. To solve this, I will not vote for a 22% tax increase. We need to stop this large and growing tax burden on residents. Additionally, I will improve communications by ensuring all township commissioner meetings and workshops are live-streamed on Facebook or YouTube and archived so residents can watch the meetings at a time and day that works for them. I will also include budget information in the township newsletter prior to and following a budget vote. Explaining the budget and why and how things were funded.
Please outline two examples of how you are improving your community.
I serve as coach for youth sports and as an adult leader for my son’s Scout troop. I am working to help mentor and coach youth. I also serve as a democratic committeeman and have served as committeeman and officer for my local democratic club for approximately 20 years.
What would you do in office to benefit and help young people?
Work to provide programs and jobs to our young people. Also improve opportunities for housing.
What is an issue that you are passionate about and why?
Parks and recreation. I think it is critically important to maintain East Pennsboro Township’s impressive parks and recreation programs that are used by so many of East Pennsboro’s 22,000 residents.
What is the last book you read or what is your favorite book?
The last book I read was Ken Follet’s book “Never”. My favorite book is “Team of Rivals” by Doris Kearns Goodwin.
Is there anything else that you would like the Young Democrats to know about you or your campaign?
Republicans have a 4-1 majority on the board of township Commissioners. If we flip two of the three seats up for election in 2025, democrats will take the majority for the first time since 2017.
