Info

County: Cumberland
Office: Mayor Of Lemoyne Borough
Incumbent: No
Vote For: 1

What is the most pressing issue facing the office you are running for and what do you plan to do to solve it?

Losing federal funding including free breakfast and lunches as well as reading and math learning support at our local elementary school and the funding for the food bank many of our students depend upon. I am planning on hosting a multi-community food and hygiene product drive to help New Hope Ministries and our local families that depend on them, as well as raise awareness about the loss of funding and educational services right in our community.

Please outline two examples of how you are improving your community.

I previously served on Borough Council and later served as MS4 Coordinator for Lemoyne Borough; I have gotten several grants for free native bare root trees and funding to improve our parks and community spaces; I currently serve on local elementary school PTO and volunteer at our local elementary school all year long. I am also President of Conodoguinet Creek Watershed Association - we specialize in Creek Cleanups, planting riparian buffers, and outreach/ education; I am a Penn State Master Watershed Steward, a Chesapeake Bay Landscaping Professional, a Chesapeake Urban Stormwater Professional, and a NPDES Certified Stormwater Inspector; I have hosted 2 Arbor Day Festivals in Lemoyne - educational outreach & hands on activities to inspire action at home to better manage stormwater & our ecosystem. I have taught Jane Goodall Roots to Shoots Watershed Literacy classes for elementary students at Fredricksen Library in Camp Hill; I worked with many different governmental, professional, and non-profit organizations to provide educational activities and give away hundreds of free native trees, shrubs, and plants in our local area at our Arbor Day Festival!

What would you do in office to benefit and help young people?

I will continue to volunteer for PTO and connect resources - I also go into classrooms to teach lessons about watershed health and provide hands-on learning activities for students of all ages. I attempted to revive a Junior Borough Council program for high school age students but I did not get any responses. I also worked with the National Honor Society at Cedar Cliff High School to have NHS students volunteer at our Arbor Day events and at our local PTO events. I attempt to involve students of all ages in learning about the issues we face and provide open discussions and opportunities to be a part of helping create solutions.

What is an issue that you are passionate about and why?

Environmental health/ stormwater pollution management/ helping children and young adults/ listening to the feedback of our residents and businesses and working towards making those improvements in our small town! I hope to inspire a love of our natural environment and our community in our youngest residents and across all generations.

What is the last book you read or what is your favorite book?

Current read: Nature’s Best Hope by Doug Tallamy

Is there anything else that you would like the Young Democrats to know about you or your campaign?

I also serve as a Director on the board of the West Shore Historical Society to connect the generations and highlight the fascinating and very rich history of Lemoyne Borough and Central PA. Lemoyne Borough a few years ago earned a PHMC Historical Marker for the brand new information learned through an architectural dig at our Memorial Park!
