County: Cumberland
Office: School Director For West Shore School District
Incumbent: No
Vote For: 2
What is the most pressing issue facing the office you are running for and what do you plan to do to solve it?
Our most pressing issue right now is a far right PAC attempting to create policies against our youth, particularly our LGBTQ+ youth. My goal is to help the school board redirect their energies on helping all students achieve.
Please outline two examples of how you are improving your community.
I attempted to start a group in my town of New Cumberland to engage citizens in learning more about diverse cultures in order to create an inviting atmosphere inclusive of all. In addition, I supported our local mayoral campaign, where Joan Erney (the first Democratic mayor as long as I have lived here) won election. With her help and guidance, I decided my energy was better spent working in support of our school district.
What would you do in office to benefit and help young people?
Focus on supporting the teachers, staff, and administration in pursuit of excellence in education. In short, our focus should be more on education and making sure all students have what they need to succeed instead of far right policies denying the rights of minorities and attempting to white wash curriculum.
What is an issue that you are passionate about and why?
Diversity - I have spent a significant amount of time learning about the need for cultural responsibility. I find great value in diversity. As a former school administrator, I knew that I needed people who were stronger in areas I was not. I knew that hiring candidates from diverse background brought strength to my staff. I want all students to know they are not only tolerated, but appreciated.
What is the last book you read or what is your favorite book?
Fiction - Oona Out of Order, Non-Fiction - Math Fact Fluency
Is there anything else that you would like the Young Democrats to know about you or your campaign?
I am running with a slate of others. Two of us are democrats and two are republicans. As school boards are not supposed to be defined by political party, we work together for the common good.
