What is the most pressing issue facing the office you are running for and what do you plan to do to solve it?

Currently, Carlisle Borough faces issues of safe streets and sidewalks effecting both pedestrians and motorists alike and, even more so, effecting downtown businesses. I will push to solve these problems with more lighting, sidewalk renovations, traffic slowing measures, and safe community spaces.

Please outline two examples of how you are improving your community.

I currently operate Molly Pitcher Brewing Company and, in addition to giving jobs to those in our community I am able to use my position to host charitable functions, donate to local causes, and plan town-wide events. Two years ago, I teamed with the DCA to host the first annual Molly Pitcher Birthday Bash which helps to raise funds for the mural restoration on the side of The Hamilton building, as well as offer local businesses free vendor spots to sell their goods during the event. Another way I am improving my community is by shopping the local business. At least 90% of my spending occurs in Carlisle Borough and, I believe, that a town thrives when it’s local business community thrives and I will always support local business in Carlisle.

What would you do in office to benefit and help young people?

One big issue I want to address in Carlisle Borough is that of safe and affordable housing. Having been a renter in Carlisle for many years, I am aware of just how hard it can be to be a young person looking for rental housing that is both affordable AND safe. Although there is an ordinance in place to ensure landlord inspections, there is much to be desired from said ordinance and I think it should go a few steps further to ensure that all renters have a safe home to live in.

What is an issue that you are passionate about and why?

As someone who has worked in Downtown Carlisle food service establishments for 20 years, I am passionate about food waste. There are 40 different food service establishments within the Downtown area , which could result in a lot of waste. Farmer’s on the Square has a food waste collection bin, which is great, but it isn’t exactly easy (or sanitary) for bars and restaurants to hold their waste for an entire week as the market only occurs once a week. The Borough has a compost facility, but it there were receptacles throughout the borough for businesses to use they could deposit their food waste daily and it could be picked up by Dickinson College Farm for their composting and bio-gas program.

What is the last book you read or what is your favorite book?

The last book I read was “The Outskirts of Hope: A Memoir of the 1960s Deep South” by Jo Ivester

Is there anything else that you would like the Young Democrats to know about you or your campaign?

My campaign is built on my love for Carlisle. As a homeowner, and someone who operates a downtown business, I have a well rounded view of the town and am able to see the town from both perspectives. My intentions are for a vibrant, thriving Carlisle and I believe my years in this town make me the best person for the job.
